Writer / Publisher Bio:
Alex Stuart was raised in KY on a dairy farm and grew up loving all kings of music, especially jazz. Wanted to play in his school's band but parents couldn't afford an instrument. Was influenced by great lyric writers such as Cole Porter and Ira Gershwin. Went to college and became an architect, all the while developing a love for Duke Ellington and Count Basie. Much later, he lived in California where his daughter owned a music store which was frequently host to country artists and writers. After listening to one writer's songs, he told his daughter:; "I can write songs as well as he does." Months later, with tapes in hand, he went to Music Row and visited all the publishers who would let him in their doors. Very proud of what he had done, he was surprised that no one jumped at a chance to sign his songs. Finally, after many efforts, his work improved and he eventually signed fifteen single song contracts. Time went by and nothing happened. It was only after he began publishing his own work that a few cuts were obtained - all of them far from Nashville. Now, digital downloads seem to be the best outlet for an indie publisher and writer.
